no programs in my system tray :o|

I just did a clean install of XP pro and I've just about set it all up how I
like it before I will image the drive. I just realized that there aren't any
icons/programs in my system tray. The only two actually, should just be
Norton AV 2003 and the Sound Icon.

I've confirmed in System works that Norton AV has icon in systray and has
auto protect enabled, and also in control panel that sound icon appears in
tray, yet they don't. I can't say I remember doing anything that would have
disabled them, I didn't even know you could.
I know they were showing up before, as I do remember the sound icon and
norton ghost showing up there.

I have Tweak UI, is there something I could have checked there that would
have hidden icons? I don't remember doing so though.

Thanks

Don't you think it's strange though, clean insallation. I shouldn't have to
run any reg tweaks etc. I've never come across this before on a number of
clean XP installs I've performed.

BUT as I was typing this I went in Tweak UI under the startmenu tab, and
rechecked "Show taskbar notification icons" restarted and everything was
fine.

I've never heard it called notification area...I though that was like
balloon tips to open windows in the task bar or something.

If, I found any of this strange, I wouldn't be here, I find it interesting!

So, are you saying you caused your issue, without knowing it? BTW, can't
be too clean of an install if TWI was already installed. <w>

I installed tweak ui, yes I installed everything on a newly formatted
partition. I didn't realize that option in Tweak UI caused the icons to go
away because I've never heard the system tray being called the notification
area.

In otherwords, to try to sum up Kelly's sentiments:

Hi Robert,

I found an article which shows HOW TO: Remove Items from the System Tray in
Windows 2000. I guess you can try this article and do some reverse
engineering to get your Icons back.

Hope it helps. If you are unable to fix the problem reply back with more
details on what exactly is happening it will help in getting better results.

Thanks!
