no prog show in sys tray

After running windows update, when I minimize a program, its not minimized
in the system tray.

I've removed/uninstalled the windows update - no help
I've tried to do a system restore to an earlier date-but for some reason,
the system restore won't take any earlier dates.

And I still have no programs in the sys tray.

thanks for the hints-but its not help for my problem
-but my problem is that the program I'm running isn't showing in the system
tray
-the icons show properly

if I minimize a program, I can't get it back
ctrl alt delete shows the program is open-but won't restore it
all I can do is reboot
