No log in names, virus or not?

When I switch on my PC (Windows XP Home) it now goes to the blue log in
screen,
stating "to begin click your name" but with no name to click!
I have tried safe mode, last known working config but nothing comes up on
the log in screen - no options to select.
On Ctrl+alt+delete I can get a log on box with a name and password request.
I put in the Name and leave password blank. (I never had a password just
multiple users.) None of the user names work.

Does anyone know if this is a virus or a windows bug/crash?

when you Ctrl+alt+delete to get the logon dialog , can you type user name
"administrator" with no password and get in ?

Have you tried pressing the F8 key BEFORE the Windows XP logo appears and opting for
booting into Safe Mode, and doing a System Restore to a Restore Point prior to the date of
that the problem began? As for virus/worm/adware/spyware/malware, if you can boot into
Safe Mode with Networking, you might want to go to the Webroot Spy Sweeper web site, and
opt for the FREE scan there:

Are you trying to press Ctrl+alt+delete at the windows login using Normal
startup or Safe Mode?

If before accessing Safe Mode, you have to use the "Administrator" or Admin
privilege account to get into Safe Mode!!!
