No Internet connection

I am using Win2K with Linksys "G" router.
My DSL connection went down and I had to unhook my router and load some
Internet connection program to work with my ISP.
Now, my desktop cannot see my router or the internet but can see other
computers on my LAN and the other computers can see my desktop. I can see IE
going to the modem but nothing comes back.
I had to access my router through my laptop to get on the internet but my
desktop just won't connect to the router or the internet.
Does anyone have any idea what I should or can do?
Thanks,

You need type ipconfig/all in Start>Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt.
then compaire result with your ISP settings and router setting and other network setting.
best way to slove problem are read linksys Quick installation guide/User guide and follow instruction.
also you can post all of your settings here.
or you can ask linksys tech support

do you have global ip address from your isp?
If not, your nic must be addressd in
10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 (10/8 prefix)
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (172.16/12 prefix)
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168/16 prefix)
one of their range.
also your router have in one of those range.
so if your router address are 192.168.1.1
then your pc's ip address are 192.168.1.2 or 3 or eles.
your sebnet must are 255.255.255.0
your gateway address must be 192.168.1.1
2 of DNS are same as assinged on router.
is dis clear?
also, if you use wireless lan and wireless NIC,
you need setup SSID, WAP and all of other wireless settings.

Thanks for the reply.
I did that and it shows my nic card having an address of 169.254.xxx.xxx. I
also tried pinging the nic but it's not seen My LAN is working, though, as
my desktop can see the other computer. My desktop cannot see the router and
the setup for the router won't install as it cannot see my internet
connection. I am using the ASUS A7N8X MB with 2 Nic connections. I
switched the connections (cards) and the same problems are there.
It has to be some kind of software problem.

All addresses are OK except for my nic. As I said it's address is
169.254.xxx.xxx and I don't know how to change it. I tried changing the
card but that didn't do it.
Everything is set up right as my other computer on my LAN can see the
router, the internet and my desktop. Also my desktop can see the other
computer so my LAN is working ok. Just my desktop cannot see the router or
the internet.

Thanks for the links.
I ran ipconfig /release and the reply was:
"All adaptors bound to DHCP do not have DHCP addresses. The addresses were
automatically configured and cannot be released."

My netBEUI is working fine. It is just my TCP/IP won't work as my nic's IP
is screwed up and I haven't been able to change it. I can transfer files
between computers from both ends. The router is working fine.

What do you mean
"It is just my TCP/IP won't work as my nic's IP is screwed up and I haven't been able to change it."
you can not access your Loacl area connection's properties?
or even you assing ip address, it wouldn't change?
Please post more detail information.

Do you have DHCP serve in your LAN?
ipconfig/release is if you do not have DHCP server, it dosen't work.
because that command release address are one you got from DHCP server.
Open your Loacl Area Connection Properties,
and check what kind component you have,
then choose your network card's tcp/ip's properties.

OK. I ran a program that was suggested to me and it cleared everything up.
Apparently it was a winsock problem. The program was at this site.

Would you look at it and let me know what you think and thanks for the help?

Ipconfig /release would not release the ip because the adapter was not bound
to TCP/IP. The ip was automatically configured.

haven't been able to change it."
what was ipconfig/all's result.

The result of running ipconfig /all was the card's address is
169.254.xxx.xxx

I am running W2K on a ASUS A7N8X Deluxe board, Linksys Wireless WRT54G

why don't you asign ip address by manual?
open Local Area Connection Properties and open TCP/IP Properties.
then choose "Use the following IP address"
than assign address

what is your router's LAN ip address?
what is default gateway?

If you didn't change anything your Router's IP Address, that will be 192.168.1.1
so your PC's IP address must be rang 192.168.1.2 thru 192.168.254
subnet mask are 255.255.255.0
and your default gateway are 192.168.1.1
If you are SBC user Primary and secondary DNS you can use
206.141.192.60
206.141.196.13

forget Ipconfig/lerease.

logon PC with Administrator account,
start>Settings>Networks and dialup connections>Local Area Connection
right click> choose Properties
choose ip settings properties

I didn't have to do any of that. After I repaired the Winsock, the nic
bound to TCP/IP and everything worked fine.
