For some reason after I resume from standby mode my Internet connection
is always dead. The "limited or no connectivity" notice pops up and
nothing requiring an Internet connection has access. I am forced to
reboot to get it to work again. So I've started to have to either leave
the computer on or completely shut it off.
Does anyone know anything about the possible reasons for this and how to
fix it?

Open Device Manager, open the properties on your ethernet card, click
the Power tab, and deselect "Allow the computer to turn off this device
to save power". If the internet connection is through a USB port, do
the same thing with all USB Root Hubs.

I don't have a Power tab in the properties of my Ethernet card. I have
General, Advanced, Driver, Details and Resources. None of those has any
power option to turn off.
Any other ways to do it?

What internet connection do you have? Dial-up, DSL, Cable? Lan? Wireless?
I have a cable connection.

I have a similar problem. I tried the suggestion about not shutting off power
to the ethernet "Card" during standby, but it did not help. What I have
resorted to is unplugging the LinkSys Router for about 10 seconds, then I plug
it back in. (It has no on/off switch). This is crude, but it beats re-booting.

I have the same problem occasionally. I've found it sometimes works to
right-click the connection icon in the System Tray and choose Disable,
wait a few seconds and then Enable (if you don't have the icon, go to
Control Panel | Network Connections, right-click the connection and do
the same). Otherwise it's a reboot, I'm afraid.

I'm currently experimenting with Hibernation instead.
