no idea what to do: major problem

This morning, I was doing five things at once, when a pop up appeared that
said windows had made some upgrades and the computer would reboot or I could
delay. Not looking, I delayed. Every 5 minutes, the pop up reappeared.
Everytime, I delayed. I walked away and when I came back, the computer was
in the middle of rebooting. An hour later, it was still spinning in the
reboot phase. Did I get a virus or spam?

I am now in safe mode, but I have no idea what to do to get it to work
again. Any suggestions.

What...you only do 5 things at once? I wish my life was that simple.

Something to understand about what you get from Windows Update: Many of
these are updating the very guts of your computer. You can't take these
things lightly.

Whenever you install an update from Windows Update, you should
temporarily disable your security software. Not doing so may make it
impossible for Windows Update to make the changes to your computer it
needs to make.

When Windows update asks to reboot your computer, close down whatever
you're working on and let the reboot happen. Don't keep putting it off.

When updates are being installed, don't walk away. Watch what your
computer is doing and particularly make note of any messages you see.
This information can prove very useful should you have a problem with an
update.

If you want some control over when your updates get installed, go to
Control Panel > Security Center > Automatic Updates and select a
schedule that works for you.

If you can boot into Safe Mode, use System Restore and go back to the
most recent restore point before the updates arrived. Then boot
normally, go to Windows Update and install what you need to install.
