no google as default? sets to MSN instead??

From within MSAS I attempted to change the default home page and search page
settings so that they would be set back to my preferences should they ever
be changed.
Lo and Behold, I can't set it to WWW.Google.com and have it stick. When I
attempt to do so the dialog box comes up confirming the setting change but
when I OK that box the setting is then changed to www.MSN.com. This happens
over and over again.
I had heard something like this as (what I thought was) an urban myth
sort of thing but I guess it's real enough. Note that I can set the home
page from with IE and it stays put.
Interesting to you?

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options > on the General Tab,
under Home Page in the Address: box, type in your desired homepage, click
Apply > OK.

In Microsoft AntiSpyware > Click on Advanced Tools > Browser Restore >
select "Start Page" > in the "Details" pane click the "Change restore setting
to a new url..." link , type in your home and press OK.

Good luck

If you open MSAS, advanced tools-->Browser Restore--> Select what you are
interested in and select "Change restore setting to a new url" I have just
tested this and it works fine. Personally I have my page set to
search.msn.com, but I changed it to google.com without any trouble.

You can set the choices to anything you want. MSN will be the default for a
retail copy of XP, 'cause that was the default in the OS as published.

As the other replies say--this is not hard to do, but lots of folks find it
confusing.

I though I was confused too but I showed my boss the action and he just
giggled. I tried it again on another older machine and it didn't behave that
way. Maybe only on brand new machines? I don't know but it was interesting.

There are bugs in the beta1 product. One bug involves users choices about
settings not being properly recorded. That bug might easily lead you to
believe that these settings are not changeable.

I could change it, Just not to google. That was what made it interesting. It
must have been a fluke, or bug, or perhaps pilot error but it was
interesting and I'll be paying attention to see if I can reproduce it. I
have three more machines to set up so we'll see if I need to up the dose on
my medication.

That would be interesting indeed.

Every search choice I've tried, including IE7 on XP and IE7 in Vista, allows
(in fact in some cases includes in the box) a Google choice. So this would
be surprising--frankly, I don't think the beta1 product is that smart!

I remember that there were rumors about this happenning because of the
rivalry between the two companies. but I never thought much about it as it
was confined to beta products. If I can reproduce it I'll post with a new
header.
