No Desktop

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition and all of a sudden when I boot up my PC
I get an error message statin "application failed to start because
SHDOCVW.dll was not found". I then do not have a start menu or any desktop
icons. In order to get programs to run I have to hig Ctl/Alt/Del and find
the programs that way. It also appears like I can sign on to MSN but nothing
shows up on the screen. Any suggestions would be appreciated.... thanks
