no audiofrom all sources except when microphone tested

two days ago I noticed that there was no audio comming
from my speakers I fisrt check all voulme setting in
mixer, checked my settings in the controll panel in the
sound and audio devices file and ovcourse checked all
cables and the speakers themselves with a tape player.
the speakers work fine. one odd thing when I went to run
a test on the microphone I am using under the voice tab
in test hardware under recording I get sound coming from
the speakers and only then. but no matter what I do I
have no sound from any normal system sounds or the cd
player or any wav files any ideas?. the only variable is
that I was following some instructions Gateway on getting
my scanner working. Any help would be greatly appreceited

Hi Rick,

I know this may sound strange but try it. I spent two days troubleshooting
this one.

Right click My Network Places/Properties. Right click your LAN
connections/Properties and uncheck QoS and ok, your way out. Then try your
sounds again.
