NNTP for Outlook

T

Tygrinn

Hey All,

I wondered if anyone here is familiar with NNTP support for Outlook.
There are a number of applications/plug-ins out there that deliver
messages from newsgroups as posted messages to a specified folder...
everything works perfectly fine for msnews.microsoft.com groups (like
this one), but I'm experiencing trouble with 'normal' groups (via
another server (news.planet.nl))

How common is it for a newsgroup server to be 'down' for a day or two?
Or has anybody had any experience with NNTP in Outlook? I'm sorry I
cannot give more detailed info...

Outlook does not "do" NNTP - it uses Outlook Express for that function.

I think the OP was asking about the various plugins that do add NNTP support
to Outlook, not native support.

I used one for a while, and it was great. Worked very well indeed, and I had
no issues with any server. I only came back to OE because I couldn't justify
paying for a newsreader when I had OE for free!

They all work best in OL2003 though, because of it's "group by conversation"
feature - the natural way to read newsgroups.

If you feel adventurous, you might want to give IntraVNews a try - it is
free (as of right now) and may work for you.

For my setup, it caused a major hungapp so I uninstalled the version they
had available. It mayhave been fixed by now.
