Next step please?

I have an old P3 WinXP which was working fine but now boots and resets
before any windows GUI appears. This happens both on Normal and Safe so I
cannot get in to the Windows GUI at all. SP2 is not installed yet. I believe
this happened after auto installing recent XP updates.

The hard disk seems to be ok - have checked for viruses and errors. Can boot
the Win XP CDROM and enter the Repair Console to access the services and
other functions.

So assume I should try stopping services through the recovery console but
where do I start? Should I disable the "Auto" categories first? Assume
disabling "System" and "Boot" categories will anyway stop the PC from
working.

So where to start tracking this down?

Thanks John I
