newsreader-only mode

I use Outlook as my email client and use Windows Mail only for newsgroups.
In XP, Outlook Express had a start parameter that, if used, configured OE to
not display local folders. It showed only the news server accounts. Is there
any way to do that in WinMail?

Different topic: when reading news messages, I have WinMail set to not open
the message in the preview pane, by default. My process in OE was to use the
space bar to open the message and, if it was more than one screen, pressing
space bar repeatedly moved down one screen at a time. In WinMail, the same
process opens the message on the first click, but moves to the next message
on the second click rather than moving down within the message.

Is this a change of behavior by WinMail? Or do I have something set wrong?

TIA

Add /newsonly or /outnews to the Win Mail shortcut.

The space bar moves through the message (as expected) for me.
I have no idea why yours doesn't do that.
