Help anyone?

Just built a PC.

Got as far as installing the CPU (Athlon 2600), the RAM
(crucial 512 x 2) installed the motherboard (PCchips).
Successful 1st boot (I think), installed the floppy, CDRom
and hard drives 2nd boot OK (I think) and then loaded
XPhome. This seemed to install OK, formatted the hard
drive (Diamondmax 120)location, keyboard etc went all the
way thru and then rebooted itself on completion. The boot
now goes into XP up to asking me toi choose who i am and
then says loading your settings - it is then that it
freezes everytime.

Can anyone suggest a solution - the only thing unusual I
can see is a message on the BIOS screen before it loads XP
which says "Primary NO {No?) 80 conductor cable install
IDE channel" .I had to use a IDE cable from hard drive to
motherboard from my old PC.

Any suggestions?

Thanks a bunch

Your new hard drive requires an 80-wire cable. Older cables, although
they look identical because they have the same number of pins, are only
40. If replacing the cable doesn't work, then I suggest you run the
Maxtor hard drive diagnosis to be sure the drive is OK. I know it's
new, but if a drive is going to fail it usually does so right away or
not for years.
