new user registry error

V

Vince

When I logon to a machine with one specific user I receive
the following error message "the system has attempted to
load or restore a file into the registry, but the
specified file is not in a reisty file format." I do not
receive errors for other users. Any help will be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks!

It sounds to me like something is trying to run at logon for that particular
user.

SysInternals has a nice tool for looking at everything that gets
auto-started:
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/autoruns.shtml

Logon as that user, run the tool and look for suspicious entries.
Particularly any files being launched with a .REG extension.

You might also try to use a Spyware removal tool, such as AD-Aware or SpyBot
S&D.
