New Update Version 1.0.614 will NOT install

S

Susan Garland

Every day I get message: "Microsoft Antispyware has new
update, etc." I click YES to install. Message
appears: "Microsoft Antispyware is installing updates."
(Version 1.0.614). Then messages appears: "Download
Complete." Then "Install Progress" -- the scrolling bar
goes half way and comes to a complete stop. Meanwhile,
simultaneously, message appears: "The InstalShield(R)
wizard will complete the installation of Microsoft
Antispyware on your computer. To continue, click Next."
BUT - this message is blocking/covering half of the
install message so there is nowhere to click on Next.
Many other people on the forum have stated the same
problem. I see no response as yet to resolve this
problem. This program is NOT in the Add/Remove programs,
yet it is obviously installed. What the heck is going on?

Hello Susan

You might use the Windows Installer cleanup tool to see if
there are remnants that can be removed by that tool:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;290301

After this, start from Empty your IE cache and your other
temporary file folders, eg: c:\temp, c:\windows\temp or
C:\Documents and Settings\<name>\Local Settings\Temp (the
path to your temp folder will change depending on your
name) - sometimes programmes can be hidden in there -
watch out for mysterious *.exe files or *.dll files in
those folders.

Go to IE Tools, Internet Options, Temporary Internet Files
{Settings Button}, View Objects, Downloaded Program Files.
Check for unrecognised objects there.

Final, install MSAS.

I had the same problem. All I did was uninstall the old version and download
and install the new one on Microsofts site. All working ok now. :)

If Microsoft Antispyware is not listed in add or remove programs, use the
cleanup tool referenced by Engel to remove the installer traces.

Then try again with a fresh download.
