new to ati...install questions

hi..

Have had nvidia based cards in the past ...this is my first ati. Hoping to
get some input on several things before I install the card.

1. Has anyone used the detonator r.i.p. for detonator removal?

2. If I download the complete catalyst package, will I be given options
about installing the wdm driver...or does the software automatically detect
card type (9800 pro)? Or should I just download individual components?

3. What is the difference between the hydravision basic and full?

Thanks!

Run regedit and search for all nvidia entries and delete.

There is all sorts of advice on installing drivers. You can get all three in
one or individual. I just run the combined package without uninstalling
previous and do not have any problems. Everything just works, automatically.

Hydravision is a utility to manage dual monitors. I found it annoying and
unneeded.

Ditto, on Hydravision.

I use a dual monitor setup...hydravision needed for that?

Depends on what you want to accomplish. Try it without first. There are
display settings for cloning, etc., that may give you all you want without
Hydravision. I use TV-out to watch a movie fullscreen while working with
other apps on my monitor, and never saw a need for Hydravision.

One good thing about it is the ability to save your desktop icon
setup, and restore it again when something life Half-life crashes back
to a 640x480 desktop and shoves 'em all up in the corner! Grrrrr!

I run dual monitors using a radeon 64 DDR VIVO and Xpert98. Hydravision adds
little to using dual-monitors. If you want something with usefull features
using dual displays try MultiMin instead, much richer feature set.

Thanks to all of you for your advice on this. Drivers installed..dual
monitors working great...sans hydravision! Appreciate that advice re:
hydravision....things are seamless as is without another "kludge"!

pjp: Will look into MultiMin that you recommended.

Thanks again,

kristin
