W2K, unlike NT4 relies on DNS name resolution. Nt4 uses netbios name
resolution. The fix is to specify ip_address of NT4 domain controllers via
W2K's hosts file or supplying the address of a DNS server thats running on
the network.

Hi,

In a subnetted networking this is often caused by incorrect WINS
operation. Check WINS settings on the NT4 servers and ensure that the
Win2k server is using the correct IP addresses for the WINS servers.

DNS is only used to find domain controllers with Win2k AD domains.

Kris.
