New Programme Installed

Whenever I click on "Start" I get a "New Programme
Installed" notification which is moderately irritating
given that I have not installed a new programme.

Does anyone know how to stop this message appearing?

I have used all programmes installed with XP so I assume
it is an error. Virus check reveals nothing untoward?

Any clues?

right-click on Start menu button, select Properties, press Customize button,
click the Advanced tab, remove check from the box 'Highlight newly installed
programs', press OK, OK

tip - you can also use the Classic Start menu instead of the new XP menu by
select 'Classic Start menu' from the Start Menu properties panel. i can't
stand the new XP Start Menu (nor the hideous themes, menu fading, et al), so
i've turned all that crap off. the classic start menu doesn't highlight
newly installed programs either
