New laptop, trying to network

Ok, I got my wife an HP laptop for christmas, Linked them with Linksys 'G'
wireless broadband router and card for her laptop. she can access the
internet fine. I have done the "Network Wizard" on both computers. My PC
(desktop) will see her files but her laptop can't find my 'Network Places'
shared folders etc... or see my computer for that matter in "View Workgroup
Computers" I have done the 'Troubleshooting Wizard" too but no help there.

I have exactly the same problem. The interesting thing is that I can ping to
the new pc and it times out, yet if I ping back to the old pc from the new
one it finds it and sends replies!

Something is very broken in XP and it is really annoying since I want to
network to my accounting software on the old pc and I spent money getting a
multi user licence only to find XP networking sucks.

I have my tail between my legs. It was my firewall, (McAfee) I had a setting
to accept TCP/IP Network, but the check-box next to it wasn't checked.
Everything works like a charm. Thanks all!
