Hi all!

I just installed a new Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe MB.When I turn on the
power the green led on the MB comes on and all the Fans are
running.Power stays on for 4 seconds and shuts down.I double checked all
connections and removed all power to hd,cd rom and floppy, removed video
card.I checked with only power to the MB.Still shuts down in 4
seconds. It always shuts down in 4 seconds no mater what I do.I would
appreciate any help.

Thanks Kindly,

William

William, first make sure your powersupply is good. Switch to a known good PSU
if you can, also you can buy basic PSU line tester at bestbuy/compusa kinda
place. Also try jumpering the power switch pin manualy. just briefly touch the
two pins with a flathead or jumper. Do it just briefly to see if it starts. If
the pins are continuisly jumpered (ex flathead is held agasnt them for more
than a few seconds) the system will turn itself off in about 4 seconds. Its
effectly holding down the powerbutton, which triggers the motherboard to
poweroff.

Little groggy this afternoon so hope this all made sense ;) Good luck.

Well I tried the power switch with the screwdriver but still the same
problem.I have not tried a new power supply yet because before I
upgraded I had a SOYO K7VMP2 MB and every thing was working excellent.I
only had my new computer about six months.Power supply is 350 watts. What
I don't understand is I only have MB pluged in.There should not be that
much load on the power supply.I guess with my luck the MB is defective.
I am going to try a new power supply before I blame the MB. Thanks for
the suggestions.

Thanks Kindly,
William

Is the CPU fan plugged in ? Is the CPU fan spinning ?
Check the fan first, because it is the easiest thing to fix.

The second thing to check, is the orientation of the heatsink
with respect to the silicon die on the processor. The contact
patch on the bottom of the heatsink, is offset from center.
When installed one way, you'll find that the contact patch
aligns exactly with the silicon die. If the heatsink is
rotated 180 degrees, the contact patch will only touch a
portion of the silicon die. The rest of the silicon die
overheats, and the computer will shut down.

So, you may have to remove the heatsink/fan and verify the
installation is correct. You also need to verify that there
is some thermal interface material (a pad, thermal paste etc)
between the heatsink and the silicon die, as getting the heat
from the small Athlon die to the heatsink is a major challenge,
and assembling the thing dry is not likely to work without
the computer shutting down.

Hi Paul!

YOUR THE MAN,rotated the heat sink 180 degrees and that solved the
problem.

Thanks kindly,

lucky you didn't fry the whole rig.
Well that is what happens when you take the easy way out.I put the cpu
heat sink on the way the clips were easy to install. If I had put the cpu
heat sink clips on the hard way every thing would have been ok.Yes I am
lucky I didn't fry the cpu.I installed a few motherboards and that is
the first one that the heatsink was installed wrong.
