New Hardware detected at startup???

On Win XP SP2, IE SP2
I am on dial-up only and confirmed in Control Panel/
Network Connections.

On bootup I get popup that new hardware is detected.
Checking Device Manager, highlighted is "Other devices"
"Ethernet Controller". I don't want this hardware and in
Device Manager have Disabled and Uninstalled. But on
reboot it is back.

How do I get rid of this Ethernet Controller?

Two places:

Under Control Panel | Network Connections ... disable the Lan Connection

In you BIOS:
You will find an Ethernet Card that you have to Disable.

You didn't mention if this is a Dell PC. If so and it uses Viiv technology,
you Icon in lower right corner will change when you disable the Ethernet
card (I remember, maybe).

Insisde the pc is a network card that the computer sees each time you boot.
You need to find the name of the card and get the drivers for it or remove
the card. If you have an intergrated card you can't really remove it. Go to
the web site for your brand of pc and you should be able to find the name of
the card and download the drivers.

If integrated to the motherboard, disable in the bios.

If its a network card, remove the card from the PC.

If you don't want to fool with either, simply disable in device manager, and
leave it alone.

Thanks for the quick response everbody...
More info:
This PC is a Gateway E-6000 I purchased from the city and
"they were on a LAN".
Has no internal Ethernet card so must have intergrated mb or
in the BIOS.
I will disable in device manager.

You need to know more about what components make up
your computer.

This freeware programme is excellent for getting information
about your computer:
Everest Home Edition (freeware)

Tip: To copy select Report, Quick Report, Plain Text, highlight
required text, right click and select copy. However, whilst this
is fine for posting small amounts of information into newsgroup
messages longer reports will irritate other newsgroup
subscribers.

Hope this helps.
