New folders are read-only

When I create a new folder, it is read-only. I launched the windows
explorer folder from cygwin using 'cygstart '. Is there a windows-
specific reason why the new folder is read-only? I'm working in a
secondary hard drive."d:". I am also using a domain account. Thanks.

That hasn't been the case in other XP machines I've used....I mean the
folders I create myself by right-clicking the in a folder and choosing
New->Folder. I can certainly change it away from read-only, but I'm
at a loss as to why they are created that way.

Yes, you can clear the readonly attribute, but it comes right back.

I don't know about the computers you have inspected, but all of the ones I
use have all folders marked readonly.

They AREN'T read-only. Please change the folder view to Details, then
r-click on the column headers and put a tick next to Attributes. Now
look in the attributes column. Do you see any "R"'s?

I was able to copy entire subtrees in that folder, so it really
stopped bing readon
