Hi - When you say "fresh install, but it is a partitioned drive" do you
mean that you formatted only the partition for the operating system and
the other partitions had data on them? If that is the case, then you
might have had a virus on one of the other partitions which has now
infected the entire drive. Another reason for the problems might be
that the drive itself is going. You can download a diagnostic utility
from the drive mftr.'s website to check that.

yeah i just formated the 5gb drive to put OS on it the
other ones have lots of data! one of them has lots of
music and stuff from kazza, so i think that is where i got
the virus, if i have one!

Well, *yeah*. No surprises there. You can't run a Windows operating
system without a current (post-2002 version using updated definitions)
antivirus program installed while engaging in risky computing practices
and expect to remain virus-free.

Good luck,

Kazaa is notorious for planting all kinds of junk, especially adware, on
your PC. I've seen it badly screw up over half a dozen PCs.

You can get a free virus scan at www.mcafee.com and it's well worth the
trouble.
