I have one computer with Windows XP Media Center and another computer with
Win98SE. They are sharing cable modem through a Linksys Router (wired). I
would like to copy some of the files from the old Win98 machine to my WinXP
machine. I have the same workgroup name on both computers and I can see the
Win98 machine when I click "View Workgroup Computers". When I try to access
it I get this error message: "||ComputerName is not accessible. You might
not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator
of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path
was not found." I am using the administrator account on WinXP.
I can't use WinXP's Network Wizard on Win98 because my new computer doesn't
have a floppy to create the file and my WinXP is on DVD and the old computer
doesn't have a DVD drive. I looked for help on the internet and tried many
things but nothing seems to help. I can't ping the Win98 machine either.
I'm baffled, I set up a small 10 computer network at work and didn't have
any problems (but all are Win2000). This is the first computer I've used
with WinXP, so I hope someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks in
advance for any help provided.
