Networking with Win XP

Dominic Chila

We have a LAN with 3 PC's. 1 runs Win XP Pro, and the
other two Win 2K Pro. Recently access to the Win XP PC
from the Win 2K PC's asks for username and Password.
Have tried creating usernames on the XP PC, resetting IP
Addresses, removing and resetting security on shared
folders - all to no avail. Does anyone know what the
problem is and more importantly what is the solution?

Make sure the guest account is disabled on the XP Pro machine and in Local
Security Policy/security settings/local policies/security policy - network
access: sharing and security model is set to classic. When creating users on XP,
they also need to have a password and the same one that the users logon to their
W2K machines. Double check that the logon name is accurate and remember
passwords are case sensitive. --- Steve
