Networking -I'm going round the bend!

Blair,

You run "ipconfig /all" or "net view" from a command window (Start - Run ' "cmd"
or "command").

Why are you using a proxy server? If the proxy server is external to your LAN
("www.freeserve.net"), you have to have internet access to get to it, so you
have no problem with internet access either - just proxy server access.

If you're trying to use a proxy server for Outlook Express, that could be your
problem there too - proxy servers are application specific, and a proxy server
for HTTP:80 will not necessarily work for POP:109/110.

So first, remove all proxy references. Configure all applications for direct
internet access, so each computer simply uses its Default Gateway for
everything. Then see what works and doesn't work, and let us know.
Thanks Chuck I deleted the reference to Proxy servers and I can now connect
immediately to Internet Explorer.
This connection is dependant on my Laptop being connected to the Internet
which is OK for me.
But when I try to open Outlook Express I then get a logon window which I
require to use. If I click it I get a fault message that my password was
rejected.
Since OE uses the same Internet connections as Internet Explorer why
wouldn't it work?
Very nearly there thanks to you.

Blair,

OK, one more step taken.

The Outlook Express login is most likely your mail server. Internet Explorer
just accesses the web, no account / password needed, except when logging in to
your ISP (and not for all service either).

Outlook / Outlook Express accesses email, which should always require an account
and password. If you're lucky, it's the same account name and password as you
use for logging in to your ISP, but whatever it is, you have to know it.
