Networking HP LaserJet 3100 (scanner)

We have a home network with two computers running WinXP Pro, and one running
Win2K. Windows Live OneCare is the only firewall in use. An HP LaserJet
3100 (all-in-one) is attached to one computer via parallel port. As a
printer, it is shared across the network, and is accessible by all computers
without any hassle. As a scanner, it cannot be seen except by the computer
to which it is physically attached. (This problem has existed forever, even
with firewall turned off.)

Has anyone had any success in networking the LaserJet 3100 scanner? I've
searched this newsgroup, HP's web site, and have Googled the subject,
without obtaining any enlightenment.

TIA,
Allan

There are network scanners but they cost thousands of dollars.
Consumer-level scanners such as the one you have cannot be networked.
