Networking 2 Computers

C

Chuck

I was hoping at end of this thread i would find solution to exactly same
problem I've ben experiencing.... I have done everything... disabled both
WFand Mfee FW... upgrade the problem desktop to win pro, edited registry
entry restrictanonymous to 0, renamed computers, renamed workgroup... at end
of my pacience.... this problem just appeared, and i cant fix it... help.

current state is:
Dlink router - general open, but restricted to mac addresses of 3 computers
on my network (yes they are corect) - 1 desktop ethernet wired, 1 home laptop
wireless, 1 work laptop wireless

Desktop A can see and connect to shared folders of Laptop B and itself.
Laptop B can see both itself and Desktop B, but does not show desktop A
shared folders in network places, or when tryingto connect to desktop B, gets
cannot access network resource, you may not have permisssion.
Laptop C can see both laptob B and desktop A but can only connect to laptop B.

Problem computer seems to be desktop A, but I have tried everything... Help.

Thanks,
Bez.

Bez,

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, as 75% of the folks with your symptoms have
discovered. There are other possibilities too. Read this article with an open
mind. Have you been here before?
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/10/irregularities-in-workgroup-visibility.html>
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/10/irregularities-in-workgroup-visibility.html

Problems don't just appear from nowhere. Something changed. Think what you've
done recently.

If no help yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely:

Chuck

Chuck,

I can't seem to create a new thread, so based on my previous information and
the below readouts of ipconfig and bowstat, I wonder if you have any other
ideas... all FWs are disabled on both computers:

Thanks,
Bez.

Bez,

What firewalls (vendor name and version please) did you disable? Note any third
party firewalls can't always be disabled reliably:
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/your-personal-firewall-can-either-help.html>
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/your-personal-firewall-can-either-help.html

Note if you skipped any part of the Irregularities article since it was too
complicated, or you're hoping for a miracle cure, you may be wasting your time.
When we find the problem, you'll have to fix the problem.

Having said that, we'll get to work.

Lets see what we know so far:
# Both computers on same subnet 192.168.0/24.
# Both computers using DHCP, and same DHCP and DNS servers.
# Both computers have compatible name resolution (Hybrid is OK).
# Both computers in domain / workgroup MAZLOOMS, with same master browser NAVID.
# Both computers appear to use only NBT, no IPX/SPX, IPV6, or NetBEUI.

Let's diagnose deeper.

Take the following code (everything INSIDE the "#####" lines). Please DO NOT
include ANY portion of the "#####" lines. (Please verify computer names and ip
addresses).

1. Open Notepad. Ensure that Format - Word Wrap is not checked. Highlight
then Copy the code (Ctrl-C), precisely as it is presented, and Paste (Ctrl-V)
into Notepad. Verify, and correct, names and addresses if necessary.
2. Save the Notepad file as "cdiag.cmd", as type "All Files", into the root
folder "C:\".
3. Run it by Start - Run - "c:\cdiag".
4. Wait patiently.
5. When Notepad opens up displaying c:\cdiag.txt, first check Format and
ensure that Word Wrap is NOT checked! Then, copy the entire contents (Ctrl-A
Ctrl-C) and paste (Ctrl-V) into your next post.

Do this from all computers, please, with all computers powered up and online.

End diagnosis for CAROLINE1

.......

Not necessarily know how to read this, but it looks like both computers can
ping each other, however cdiag ran no issues on NAVID, but when I ran it on
CAROLINE1, "System error 5 - access denied" appeared twice in Cmd window.

Thanks,
Bez.
