Network wizard error "Spooler Subsystem ....needs to close

J

James

I have an ethernet based Home LAN with 3 computers. One
has 98, one XP pro, and one XP home. With the network
wizard on the XP home, I always get the error
message "Spooler Subsystem App has encountered a problem
and needs to close." The wizard cannot complete the
network setup. The network connects to the internet
through a cable modem connected to a router. All
computers, printers and components on the network appear
to work except the XP Home can't see the XP Pro. The pro
can see the home though. If I try to connect to the pro
from the home, it wants a password which I have no idea
what it might be nor how it was established. Can you
suggest any remedies?

I have 2 PCs with XP home and a DCC connection, and get the same error
message on both. The network works nonetheless, except for autodial on the
client machine. The user has to connect manually, which is a nuisance but
not fatal. The host is fine, file and printer sharing is fine. Go figure.

Best wishes,

Greetings James

First, take a look at the following MS KB article before following thes
instructions. Try stopping the spooler service before setting up the hom
network. Here's what you do

1. Open a command prompt window

2. Stop the spooler service - type "net stop spooler"
(without quotes) and hit the ENTER key

3. Then setup the network. After you finish then you can restart th
service

NOTE: You can restart the spooler service by typing "net start spooler
(without quotes) or rebooting the machine

Here's the MS KB Article
