Spooler SubSystem error message

D

Dan

Hi,

I've somehow lost my connection to another computer on my
home network (no idea why - it's worked fine for two
years). When I run the networking wizard in XP and
respond to all the questions, every time it starts
processing it gives me the following error message:

Spooler SubSystem App has encountered a problem and needs
to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

There is nothing diagnostic that I can use to
troubleshoot. When I clear the error message, the wizard
appears to complete normally, but the network connection
is not restored.

Any ideas what causes the error message means, what it
means, and what I can try to address my problem?

Thanks,
Dan

Greetings Rob,

First, take a look at the following MS KB article before
following these instructions. Try stopping the spooler
service before setting up the home network. Here's what
you do.

1. Open a command prompt window.

2. Stop the spooler service - type "net stop spooler"
(without quotes) and hit the ENTER key.

3. Then setup the network. After you finish then you can
restart the service.

NOTE: You can restart the spooler service by typing "net
start spooler" (without quotes) or rebooting the machine.

Here's the MS KB Article:

Spooler Subsystem App Has Encountered a Problem and Needs
to Close" and "Operation Could Not Be Completed" Error
Messages

Please post back and let us know how it goes.
