network setup issues

I am trying to setup a LAN network with 3 computers, 2 running w2K and 1
running W98se. last nite I finally got 2/3rds of the network to see the
other computers and share files(both W2k computers). This morning they are
choosing not to share and one of them sees all 3 computers and the other
sees only 2. (I have closed and refreshed the network screen several times)
The W98se computer is the one providing the ICS and I get the message
"Unable to browse the network. Windows is unable to gain access to the
network. This may be for a number of reasons." I can see the W98se
computer from the other 2 and I can share files with it but not the other
way around. I am unable to connect to the web with the W2k computers. I
read somewhere that having a blank password could cause some instability
with networking. Is this true? Why? What am I missing to connect online
thru the network?

I think that you should find the answers to most of your problems in the
first four or five results in these searches:

http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt...00+peer+helmig&y=Search&fr=yfp-t-501&ei=UTF-8

Useful tips:

- Password protect all the user accounts on your network.

- If you want to access resources on the Windows 2000 boxes from the
Windows 98 box use authenticated logons on the Windows 98 box, make sure
that users are presented with a logon screen and that they enter a user
name and password when they access Windows 98.

- Create user accounts with identical names and identical passwords on
each Windows 2000 machine that you want users to have access to or share
files with. For example, if you want Mary to logon to the Windows 98
machine and have her retrieve files from the Windows 2000 #1 machine,
create a user account for her on the Windows 98 box and create another
one for her with the same name and same password on the Windows 2000 #1
box. Remember to have Mary authenticate herself when she logs on to
Windows 98. If Mary logs on to the Windows 2000 #2 machines and if she
needs files on the Windows 2000 #1 machine create matching accounts for
her on the Windows 2000 #1 & #2 machines.

so you're using your win98 box to act as a ( NATing ) router ?
