Network Connection dropping after 10 minutes

I had a very stable system (XP Pro) untill I insatlled Windows Defender. Now
my network connection fails after 10 minutes. I then go to the network
connection properties and do the repair and it works again for 10 minutes.

I have two computers using the router and my computer is the only one
affected.
In the IE Connection menu under "Lan Advanced", I have the box checked for
Windows to automatically find the settings.
Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this problem?

Have you tried uninstalling Windows Defender? How about scanning for
spyware or adware?

I had uninstalled Windows Defender originally but later learned that all my
other Restore Point s had been lost from the installation so I went back to
the only restore point left and Windows defender is now loaded again. Bert
Kinney helped me understand the Restore point problems via this venue. The
network connection loss was what I was trying to solve with earlier restore
points that have now been lost.
I use CounterSpy and AdAware and they have been working but no malware has
been found before and up to this point.
I have gone through the resetting the network connections for IE in the
(LAN, Adavanced, having Windows automatically find the connection settings)
and the connection seem to have held for 5 hours without a lot of use. So I
may be OK at this time. Still do not know what I did to correct problem. I
will reply again if problem returns.
Thanks again.

Also check it isn't down-to faulty power-saving options on the network card.
This is the number one favourite for this kind of problem. The problem is
often highly intermittent, so its appearance alongside Defender might be
coincidental.

Thanks for the info and it could explain the problem as I clearly don't know
how the situation came back to normal. I will check into the power saving
options on the network card.
