NetGear WGU624 firmware upgrade problem.

If anybody has a better suggestion for a group to post this in, please
let me know.

When I try and upgrade the firmware I lose connection to the router
(can't ping it, stops responding). I wait for as long as 10 min,
finally power cycle it and reconnect. But the firmware is at the
original rev.

I am trying to do this to fix another problem: it can't seem to get an
IP address from my cable modem. I have another Netgear router that
works fine in the same configuration.

This is a refurb router that only had 30 days support, but I never got
to hooking it up for 2 months as I was travelling all summer. So
neither the vendor nor Netgear will support me, but essentially it was
DOA.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sincerely,
Jim Ryan

First, it is never recommended to do any firmware update with the wireless
network. All update need to be done when you are "wired" to the router.

As for for the IP address, do you mean your PC's IP address or the cable modem
WAN (Internet) IP address. If the PC, the router will/should assign the IP.
If the WAN, make sure the router is correctly configured for DHCP and that to
turn the cable modem off/on.
