Does .net 1, 2, 3, all need to be installed? Or should 1 and 2 be removed
and 3 installed? I am looking but can not find anything on it?

Why do you ask?

You wouldn't have any version of .NET Framework installed if there wasn't an
application installed that needed it, Sammy.

None of them needs to be installed unless you want to run an
application that needs that one. The .net framework version 3 does not
replace all earlier versions, and you need the correct one for the
program(s) you want to run.

PA Bear, Ken

I recently reloaded xp and noticed this Windows card space in control panel
and wondered where it came from. And I saw it came from .net 3 and I just
noticed how big they were, 1 and 2 and was curious. Like when you download a
new version of java it leaves the old one. I let windows load everything
except I.E 7. It was an old copy of xp pro before sp1 so there was a lot of
stuff it was wanting to download. Thank you both and I will read up on it so
as not to ask such a foolish question. I am going to check out this card
space.

PA Bear,
Windows update put back .net 1.1 and 1.1 service pack. So it is back just
like it was.

Uh-oh...

Sammy, are you now running WinXP SP3? If so, there's an ongoing bug
involving .NET Framework versions not being offered by Windows Update
after doing a "clean install" of WinXP and then installing SP3. See this
recent article by my colleague Susan Bradley:

Yes everything is good and my attempt to break it apparently failed.
