.NET Framework version 1.1 - Failure to Install

Windows Update lists this as an optional update even though
Installation History says Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1
was installed successfully in September.

Newly purchased Norton Ghost won't run because it requires .Net
Framework it so I tried to install it.

It appears to download OK but then gives me the message

"The following updates failed to be installed successfully:
· Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1"

It still lists it as an optional update but it gives a size of zero
KB.

Can anyone please tell me what to try next.
Thanks

Save yourself headaches from the bloated .NET Framework and defective
activation scheme used by Norton Ghost and return Ghost to Symantec
for a refund. Then go to www.acronis.com and order a copy of True
Image 8.0. Easier to use than Ghost, faster, no activation, and does
not require .NET Framework.

But, it's your money and choice.....

Thanks for your advice. I am changing to Norton FROM TrueImage. I
had nothing but trouble with it and got no real help from Acronis.

From the frying pan into the fire.... Good luck with Ghost. I've
used them all: Drive Image, Ghost, BING, and now True Image. True
Image has worked flawless for me. I currently use it to backup both
my desktop and notebook to an external USB 2.0 HDD. If you must use
Ghost, let me suggest instead of using Ghost 9.0 (which requires .NET
Framework and activation) see if you can get a copy of Ghost 2003
which does work fairly well. Only problem I've ever had with Ghost
2003 is it has problems recognizing USB external devices, otherwise it
was OK. Good luck.
