.Net Framework v1.1 SP1 (SR1)

Okay, I understand that the Tech Preview for the Microsoft .Net Framework
v1.1 SP1 has ended over a week ago, but when will the final version be
available?

I also hear that the Windows XP Service Pack 2 CR-ROM is supposed to include
all of the service packs, it's up to you to run them.

Well, in any case, does anyone have any knowledge of "when" this is coming
out?

There is still confusion about the DOTNETFX directory on the SP2 CD (which
claims to be .NET1.1 SP1).

And there is still no official comment from Microsoft.

Therefor I opened a bug-report on the new Product-Feedback side:

There is no confusion about the Dotnetfx folder is the DotNet 1.1 SP1... It
is.

MSDN Sept shipment contains 2 copies of the SP 2 cd. One is the MSDN CD,
the other is the Release version of the SP 2 CD (with the special SP2 cd
label, etc)...

I have both sitting on my desk now :)

I'm not so sure. Here's what I recently posted to a private MVP
newsgroup:

"
The XP SP2 CD comes with a new version of the .Net Framework 1.1. I
already had version 1.1 installed and after running setup.exe from the
DOTNETFX folder on two XP systems, many .Net files have actually been
updated in ..\v1.1.4322. I have read in various messages from
Microsoftees or from MVPs that this version was actually version 1.1
SP1.

Now I doubt.

There's no information file in the DOTNETFX folder and no indication
that I'm installing SP1. Moreover, I decided to install this update on a
Win2K system and I got the following message:

///
This version of Microsoft .Net Framework setup is intended only for use
with Windows XP. Other operating systems are not supported.
///
[If it's a generic SP1 package, it should install on Win2K]

Well, special version of the .Net framework or special version of the
installer?

What on earth did I install on my systems? 1.1 SP1? Special "emergency"
XP version? Updated 1.0 version?
"

So things are not that clear.

When SP1 is shipped, it will show up in

Right now all information on SP1 is just speculation.

You are an other guy which has no SP2 CD!!!

Please FIRST look into the DOTNETFX directory in the SP CD and THEN post
such comments!!!

If you execute setup.exe it will claim that this is .NET 1.1 SP1 !!!
The following dialog will appear:

http://srvreport.kalmbachnet.de/dotnetfx11_sp1.jpg

So it IS already shipped!

IT WOULD BE NICE IF MICROSOFT COULD CLEARIFY THIS SITUATION!!!

But since two weeks there are no comments about the DOTNETFX directory on
the SP2 CD!!!

I did the same thing - ran dotnetfx\setup.exe from the XP2 SP2 CD and got the
same dialog where it claims to be installing .NET 1.1 Service Pack 1. Note
that it doesn't identify itself this way until you accept the license
agreement.

This is most confusing. What is this thing? We started testing with it and
it has fixed a critical bug we were encountering in .NET 1.1 so we want to
have our users install this, but there doesn't seem to be any other way of
getting it other than by this one magical CD location?

Is this really an "oops, we labeled it wrong" and it is ".NET 1.1 w/ a bunch
of fixes needed for XP SP2, but it isn't really .NET 1.1 SP1 yet"?

When the .NET 1.1 SP1 finally shows up on this page, will it be labeled .NET
1.1 SP1a or something now?

Hello Junfeng Zhang[MSFT],

Could you please explain what the DOTNETFX directory on the XP-SP2 CD
contains!!!

It does not help us very much if you do not answer questions which are
important to your customers!

Either give a an official answer from Microsoft or forward the question to
the responsible person at Microsoft !!!

And also provide some official feedback to the bug-report at:

There is a (partial) list of fixes on:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/downloads/updates/sptechpreview/content11sp1.aspx

The page below states that .NET 1.1 SP1 and 1.0 SP3 (presumably the generic,
non-XPSP2 version) will be available in the MSDN Dowload Center in
September:

Hello Jens Christian,
The page below states that .NET 1.1 SP1 and 1.0 SP3 (presumably the
generic, non-XPSP2 version) will be available in the MSDN Dowload
Center in September:

..NET 1.1 SP1 is already on the XP-SP2 CD available! But it is a buggy
version!

So wait for on other .NET 1.1 SP1 (same name but might be better).

Hi,

I have downloaded the "official" SP1 RTM and launched the installer on a
system where I had already installed the update package included in the
XP SP2 CD. Guess what? The installer told me that the SP1 was already
installed and asked whether I wanted to re-install? I clicked "Yes".

Then I compared the v1.14322 folder with the same folder on a system
where I had also installed the XP SP2 CD .Net package (but not the new
official one). Nothing changed.

So despite what has been announced here and there, the package on the XP
SP2 CD *was* SP1 RTM. What a mess! I have never got so many wrong
informations about a Microsoft product (including from Microsoft
representatives) in such a short period of time.

Well, at least now we know.

Hi Patrick,

I also can confirm this! If this is really the case, then there is a bug
inside the SP1!!!

At least accoring to the mail I received some days ago:

Jochen,

I've been waiting to get word back from HQ about being able to tell you
there are issues with the FX working properly on FAT32 filesystems, but
there seems to be a hold up. So to make a long story short, you will be
fine on NTFS, but not FAT32 with the version you have loaded. There
will be a final release tracking out a few weeks, this will be the final
release of .NET FX SP1 - the one you want to load on your systems.

cheers,

I am not sure if you are allowed to post the email communication publicly.
But since you post it...

There is no known bug in 1.1 SP1. But we do find some issues on SP1
_installer_ on FAT32 system.

That is why the communication is so confusing. The framework bits in XPSP2
CD is the same as the newly released in microsoft.com. But the installer is
not.

It is very good that someone from MS now cleared the situation!!!

Thanx.

OK, I found the .Net Framework 1.1 SP1 SDK (Only Chinese Version) at
"http://www.cnbeta.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=4916".

In this site, the download link is from download.microsoft.com.
What's that? Preview version? or the Full Version?

I can understand Chinese.

The simple translation is:

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1) mainly improves the
security. And, this Service Pack includes all of updates after the release of
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1. Special, SP1 has better supports for WSDL
Document, avoiding data executing.

There are 22 languages available; 18 languages available for Windows Server
2003 Version.

The first download is: Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Offical
Simplified Chinese Version

The Second download is: Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 for
Windows Server 200
