Cannot see .NET Frameworks listed in Control Panel

[I posted this also in the .dotnet.general NG before I found
this NG.]
I re-loaded a year-old Vista Business system clone, and then
installed SP1 and SP2. Then I tried to download and install
..NET Framework 2.0, and the installer said that it was already
installed. But I couldn't find it. Then I tried to download and
install .NET Framework 3.5, and the installer said that it was
already installed. But I also couldn't find it. So I tried down-
loading and installing the SP1 for .NET Framework 3.5, and
it suceeded and is listed in "Programs and Features" in the
Control Panel.

But no other mention is made of any .NET Frameworks in
"Programs and Features". In my WinXP Pro system, all of
of the .NET Framework versions are listed along with their
Service Packs. Where should they be listed in Vista? Or is
there something wrong in my Vista system?

The .NET Framework verstions are not *applications* and, as such won't be
listed in the Control Panel programs.

You can find which versions of the Framework you have by browsing to your
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework folder.

Ah, yes, there they are - Framework 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5.
But the SP1 for Framework 3.5 is listed in the Control Panel's
"Programs and Features" panel. Appparently the Service Packs
are listed in "Programs and Features" panel.

This is a break with the placement found in WinXP. In WinXP,
the Frameworks and their Service Packs and updates are all
listed together in the Control Panel's "Add or Remove" panel.

Thanks for the point-out.

..NET 2.0 and 3.0 are included as part of the operating system in Vista. I
doubt that you'd be able to remove them or even see them listed in
Add/Remove. 3.5 was released after Vista and therefore would be installed
separately, requiring an entry into the Add/Remove list.

FYI 3.5 was included with Vista SP1, so if you've got that you've got 3.5.

Thanks for the added clarification on why 3.5 was treated
differently.

JOOI, was it embedded into the SP install or was it a separate package on
the CD/DVD? I've never heard of MS rolling things like that into service
packs before, and generally they employ a principal of "reduced surface
area" to protect the OS against exploits, i.e. they tend to shy away from
installing anything that's not a bug-fix or security patch as part of a
service pack.

If they've taken a different route with .NET then so much the better -
that's one addition I *would* like to see moved to the Critical Updates
section!
