.NET 2.0 Install Issue

I am running WinXP Professional, up-to-date, on a recently configured clean
system.

I successfully installed .NET 2.0. I then downloaded the Security fixes and
the update process began. My system hung. On restart, the updates failed. I
uninstalled .NET, restarted, and attempted to re-install it. I now get the
following
error:

Error 25015.Failed to install assembly
'C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\IEHost.dll' because of system
error: The system cannot find the path specified.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling IE7. No change. I now cannot install
..NET and thus the application that needed it. I'm stuck. Help?

Do you have IIS running on your machine?

If so, stop the IIS service & try again

START
CONTROL PANEL
ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS
SERVICES

Right-click IIS ADMIN SERVICE & click STOP

Once this service has successfully stopped you should be able to install the
framework

IF YOU HAVE ZONE ALARM STOP & DISABLE THIS FIRST BEFORE STOPPING IIS

Another thing I missed was you can run the MSI cleanup tool when you've
uninstalled the Framework 2

Then if the Framework folder (C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727)
still exists, rename it & install again

Cleanup tool - to be used after you uninstalled .NET Framwork 2
