needing a network setup disk

Guest

I am trying to set up a network, and XP is wanting to make a setup disk.
However, like any computer these days, I don't have a floppy drive, and the
wizard is telling me I don't have a drive. Or in the most recent case, it is
telling me to insert a disk into drive "H". I don't have a drive H.
How can I get this thing to do the smart thing? Or how do I get around this
whole process?

TIA

There's an option at the bottom of that dialog box that says "I don't need a
disk" (or words to that effect). Why do you need a disk?

Hi
You do not need a disk or a wizard, it is just as easy (and more beneficial)
to configure each computer Network manually.

As Gordon and Jack have said, you don't need to create a network setup
disk, in spite of what the Wizard says.

If you want to run the Wizard on computers with Windows 98 or Me, you
can copy the Wizard's executable file to a CD or USB flash disk:

C:\Windows\System32\Netsetup.exe

To run the Wizard on a computer with Windows XP, click Start > All
Programs > Accessories > Communications > Network Setup Wizard.

The Wizard won't run on Windows 95 or Windows 2000.

To make network settings manually on another computer, without using
the Wizard, go to Control Panel > Network and:

1. Add these network components if they aren't already present:

TCP/IP protocol
Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks

2. Remove these network components if they're present:

IPX/SPX protocol
NetBEUI protocol
Client for NetWare networks

3. Set the workgroup name to the same name as the Windows XP computer
uses (default for XP is MSHOME).
