Need to Setup DOS Driver in XP Pro

Mike

Hi, we have a DOS psychological testing program setup in Windows XP Pro.
How can I configure a DOS printer driver for this program? Several years
ago,
I did it in W2K Pro but forgot what I did.

Thanks,

Mike

That would uaually be a function of the software. But of course, your
printer itself is an issue. So, since the ol' crystal ball is broken, you'll
need to provide some information. Like how does the printer connect to the
PC? What model printer?

The DOS emulator in XP doesn't support USB printing as native, but you can
share the printer, then use the "net use" command at the DOS prompt to set
it up as LPT port emulation. But you don't want to do that if your printer
uses the parallel port.

Then there's another issue - some printers don't even do DOS. They don't
have the software built in, and rely completely on Windows to generate the
data stream used to generate the print. For instance, the Brother HL2040
(non network version) will not print from DOS no matter what.

true. For printing from DOS to these Windows-Only (AKA GDI) printers, you
may want to have a look at Printfil.

You can find more info and a free trial version to download at

Then in that case, simple copy command will do the job. All you need to do is
to copy the file on the parallel port where printer is connected using copy
command in DOS. I did this thing in the past in Xerox.

When "print" is chosen for the program it somehow generates a report then
sends it to the printer.
I'm not sure how I can copy a fiule to the printer.
