WhiteTea,
To restore a backed-up .dbx file :
1). If the folder of that name already exists in the list of OE folders,
then just overwrite the original file of the same name within your OE
'root store' folder.
2). If the folder does NOT exist in the 'virtual' folder list in the OE
folders pane, then, first create a folder of that name in OE.
Then, as before, copy across the .dbx file to your OE 'root store'
folder, overwriting the one that's now there.
The important thing to remember is that Outlook Express will not 'see'
the restored folder if the folder did not already exist there.
So, if the folder has since been deleted, then you must re-create it.
Creating a new folder in OE, as you will know, actually creates a .dbx
'file' of the same name in the 'root store' folder.
Whether the folder already exists in the Outlook Express's 'list' is the
important thing here, not that a .dbx file already exists in the store
folder or not.
To have copied a .dbx file for you to say that you have 'backed-it-up',
means that you know where the 'root store' folder is.
However, if you have forgotten, generally where it's at then ;
"%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{CLSID}\Microsoft\Outlook Express"
....where {CLSID} stands for the unique Class ID that is associated with
your OE identity.
