Need some help with a VPN connection

C

Chuck

Some changes were made at work and at home and I cannot connect to the work
anymore.

I was on a cable modem at work with a dial up ISP at home. Had a VPN
connection to work and could see all of the computers on the work peer to
peer network but it was slow. At work the cable modem was changed to a
Motorola cable modem and a linksys router with VPN was put in also. At home
I now have a cable modem but cannot connect with the VPN connection and I do
not know what is wrong. One of our sales reps has a dial up connection to
get his email and that still works. All computers have windows xp pro
operating system.

Any help would be appreciated.

Chuck

What error does the client receive when trying to connect? can the clients
ping the VPN server? Is the new linksys router configured to allow TCP port
1723 and GRE (IP Protocol 47) traffic?

Thanks,
Marc Reynolds

HI,

Verified the MTU setting of the router. You should put at
eg 1404. To verified what is the setting try different
packet size when you make a ping to your vpn..

Hope it help you !

When you dial with modem, you are dialing directly to the RAS server.
With VPN, the traffic is being routed through the Linksys router.

From what you have described, the error is most likely because the Linksys
router is either not configured properly or cannot support incoming PPTP
sessions.

Incoming PPTP sessions require that the edge router (Linksys router in your
case) should forward TCP port 1723 and GRE (IP protocol 47) traffic to the
VPN server.
Please check the configuration of the Linksys router.
