Need help wtih Windows Messenger Remote Assistance setup

Hi all :) XP Pro SP2

I have been trying to set up the Remote Assistance on my computer to work
with a fellow MVP on a special Access database project.

I have set up all the necessary Windows Firewall and Remote Assistance
details as described in the KB306800, and other suggestions, and with the
router. However, I am still unable to get a connection with the user on the
other end.

I would truly appreciate any help. The port 3389 needed for this activity
is now assigned to the Remote Desktop assistance, which I do not want to
use, as I can't see what they are doing and this is somewhat of a training
exercise as well. So, is there any way to change this port assignment, or
can I use an alternative port? Could a program such as SpyBot S&D, AdAware,
SpywareBlaster or F-Prot the paid version, or MSAS have any setting that
might block it? Do I need to sign into MSN Messenger first? I don't use
Yahoo toolbar, or have the Comapnion, or Google toolbar, and none of the
other 3rd party junk.

I know of all the risks, and have taken precautions on both the router and
PC end. I am in hopes that someone will be able to advise me of what/where
I might look for other avenues that may be creating a block to the
connection, or perhaps how I can reset some of the settings to allow for a
connection.

I have never used the WM before, or the Remote business, so I don't truly
have a clue how it all works.

I Have followed all the suggestions of others, and the Microsoft TechNet
Step-By-Step Guide to Remote Assistance, enabled all the necessary Windows
XP Pro SP2 program requirements, they are all turned on and activated, the
port 3389 has been forwarded to my proper IP address. the Windows Firewall
exceptions have been set, but, the Remote Assistance will still not allow
the other party to access my computer. I have a router, and have set up
everything that I know of the all access from the other party, but, still
nothing.

What might I be overlooking? Do I need to create a user ID for
them?..although, nothing said that for RA. I'm using the Windows Messenger,
they are accepting, and all should be working as far as we can tell, but, it
isn't. Is this something that could be blocked by Verizon, my IP? A router
setting perhaps?

What I find strange is that when the person on the other end accepts the
initiation, the MSN icon shows up in the sys tray and has a red circle and
white X in it, and when I hover on it, it says I am signed out, although, I
never signed in. Could there be some mix up in this?

I'd really appreciate any help, it is very important that I get this working
if at all possible. I have a Friday deadline, this week, and I really need
their help.

Jan :)
