Need help, please, w/printer install

Hi -

I just bought an eMachine T6524 to replace my old Compaq.. the one item that
is giving me trouble is my HP T65xi printer.

The PC is running XP Media Center. I set the BIOS from SPP (standard
parallel printer port) to SPP+ EPP 1.9 (Standard plus enhanced).

I can print to the printer, but the pc/ software is unable to communicate
with the printer, which is an all in one (scan/fax/print). So I cannot scan
nor send/receive a fax...

The cable is IEEE certified, and after swapping cables, still no luck.

The printer worked great in the past so I doubt it's the printer hardware or
the cable...

It's got to be something in the PC or the setup...

Can anyone help here??? Thank you...

if you have installed software correctly as specified it should work with no
problems.
if printer has usb connections the solution to this one is unplug all
printer connections to the computer and shutdown and restart wait till booted
up then connect leads supplied with printer. this should work.
i have had the same problem with other hardware.

Fixed... thank you for your help!

Yup, cheap parallel port.. Standard/Enhanced only... needed ECP (extended)..
ordered a card from new egg yesterday, came in today - installed and
running...

Only $18... but why they would cheapen the parallel port is beyond me....

Thank you!
