Need Excel Solver Add-in

C

Cindy

I need the Solver Add-in for Excel (XP Professional
2002), but it is not on the CD that came with my
computer. The CD I have is Microsoft Office XP Version
2002 Service Pack 1. First of all, am I looking at the
right CD? None of the others appear to be what I'm
looking for. Secondly, Solver is not on this CD. How do
I get it? I need it ASAP for my statistics class...
Please help!
Thank you!

Open Excel, click Tools/add-ins, select the analysis tool
pack and the solver, browse the Office CD until you find the
folder with the add-ins.

You can press F1 in Excel and get help.

Installing Excel
Error message 2355 or Corrupt Cabinet
If during installation of Excel you receive error message
number 2355 or the message text "Corrupt Cabinet," update
the version of Microsoft Windows Installer on your computer
by running the appropriate executable file found on the
installation CD. The following assumes that D:\ is your CD
drive.
For Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition
(Me)D:\FILES\SUPPORT\INSTMSI.EXE
For Windows NT 4.0D:\FILES\SUPPORT\INSTMSIW.EXE
For Windows 2000D:\FILES\SUPPORT\Q282879.EXE

After running the file, restart your computer and begin
installation again.

Loading Microsoft SQL Server 2000 prior to Office XP or
Excel
If you install SQL Server 2000, after you install Office XP
or Excel, SQL Server Analysis services client DLLs will not
operate properly. This prevents any connection to OLAP
services from Excel or OWC PivotTable, and may affect the
OLAP Manager component of SQL Server Analysis services.
Make sure to install SQL Server 2000 first and Office XP
second. If you have already installed SQL Server 2000 after
installing Office XP, the problem can be fixed by running
Office repair.
Once SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1 is available you will
not experience this issue and can install the two products
in either order.

Working with Excel
Genius Assistant character no longer installed
Excel no longer supports the Genius Assistant character. For
customers who were using this Office Assistant and who are
upgrading from Excel 2000, the Assistant will be switched to
the default character, Clippit. Upon upgrading, customers
can select another Assistant by right-clicking the Assistant
and then clicking Choose Assistant.

Clip art Web Collections scope requires Internet Explorer 5

When you are searching for clip art, either in Clip

Tools on the Web and Internet Explorer
To use the Tools on the Web feature from within Clip

those in the Insert Clip Art task pane, you must have
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later. This requirement
does not apply to the Tools on the Web feature when accessed

New default behavior when referencing a cell in a PivotTable
report
The new default behavior in Excel when referencing a cell in
a PivotTable report is to generate a GETPIVOTDATA formula
that references the data itself, instead of just the cell.
To change this default back to a simple cell reference, do
the following steps.
To display the PivotTable toolbar, select Toolbars on the
View menu, and then click PivotTable.
Click on the dropdown arrow on the right end of the
PivotTable toolbar.
Click Add or Remove Buttons, and then PivotTable.
Make sure the Generate GetPivotData option is checked.
On the PivotTable toolbar, click Generate GetPivotData.

Multilingual issues
Excel and Indic languages
If you are enabling support for the Indic languages, it is
recommended that you choose Indic in the Default version of
Microsoft Office list in the Microsoft Office Language
Settings (on the Start menu, point to Programs, and then
click Microsoft Office Language Settings).
Microsoft Excel requires Microsoft Windows 2000 or later for
Indic language support. Devanagari and Tamil scripts are
fully supported with Windows 2000.

Help topic: Create a digital dashboard
The procedures in this topic for creating digital dashboards
from Microsoft Outlook or from the Add Network Place Wizard
are incorrect. You cannot create a digital dashboard from
either Outlook or the Add Network Place Wizard. If you have
Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001, you can create a
personal dashboard on that server by clicking the Create a
new personal dashboard link on the server's dashboard site
home page, and then following instructions. For more
information on how to create a digital dashboard, download
the Digital Dashboard Resource Kit (DDRK), which is
available on the Microsoft Digital Dashboard Web site at:
http://www.microsoft.com/business/digitaldashboard/

Help topic: Tips for finding clips
This topic contains an inaccurate example. The search "blue,
car" would actually yield results for blue AND car for local
scopes, and would yield results for blue only for the Web
Collections scope.

Help topic: Turn on or off transparent floating toolbars
Disregard this Help topic, which documents a toolbar feature
that is not available in Excel.

Here is the Excel help for add-ins...
Load or unload an Excel add-in program

1.. On the Tools menu, click Add-Ins.
Load an add-in

1.. If the add-in you want to use is not listed in the
Add-Ins available box, click Browse, and then locate the
add-in.

2.. In the Add-Ins available box, select the check box
next to the add-in you want to load, and then click OK.
3.. If necessary, follow the instructions in setup
program.
So I suggest that you reinstall Excel and select to install
ALL the components to your system, then the add-ins will be
available with the click of the button.

Good luck.

You'll need more than a service pack CD as it is only the service pack.
Office XP Pro is comprised of three CDs.

My Office XP Pro is two CDs, one is all program and the
other is media (clip art and such). Her Office with SP1
just means that the Service Pack that was issued after the
first release is included on her disk.
