if in explorer, address bar reads c:\ and I right click my 'windows'
folder and select properties, it returns an astonishing 18.2gb 18.1 on
disk, in 73,190 files, and 1,655 folders

should I open the folder in explorer (now reads c:\windows) with hidden
files/folders visible, and hit ctrl+a then rightclick for properties, I
get 24,102 files 1,625 folders 3.39gb, 3.17gb on disk.

what am I missing? fwiw, I am running xppro sp2 in a domain
enviroment..

can anyone tell me where to look for my missing (and I'd like to
ridmyself of) 15gb of stuff?

offiline folders are not enabled, and system restore is not on.

help?

Mine reads the same with both methods:

Mine reads: 3.84GB (4.03GB on disk), 22,201 files, 1,316 folders.

Go to Folder Options
Uncheck "Hide Protected system files (Recommended)"
And make sure "Show hidden files" is selected
Then click OK
Now compare the size.

You're right, that doesn't seem to work as you'd expect it to. I just
did that (Windows Explorer with C: selected, right-click the Windows
directory, choose "Properties".) The dialog box that pops up has a
"Location: " line, and that says "C:", not "C:\Windows", as I would
have expected.

So the 18.2GB is everything on your C: drive. The 3.39GB is
C:\Windows.

The [Location :] field will always tell you the name of Parent folder because it
is telling you about the location of Windows folder (In this case).

You are welcome ! Use CCleaner to get rid of temp files. You will be surprized to
know how much space you got after running it
