Navigation Pane Descriptions -2007 Office Service Pack 2

Hi,
this is a real hard problem for expierenced access developer.

I've got several german developer guides for access which give advice
to use the description field to organize the objects.

I can't understand why microsoft did kill such a column!

It is not only the issue to fix the problem which is described here:
I want to sort by the description field in the navigation pane!

Please fix this with high priority

This was a mistake on Microsoft's part. All I can tell you is that I
*know* Microsoft are working on this problem. They will have a
hotfix out sometime but I can't give you an exact date.

Tony, just thought I'd check this thread on the four month anniversary of
this problem cropping up. I'm managing without the descriptions (you have
to) but I'm with Wacker, if ever recovered, I would like to sort on them too,
like I used to with 2003. Maybe soon...

In ACCESS 2003, I could see the descriptions AND sort on them. (Heaven)

In ACCESS 2007 before SP2, I could see the descriptions, but not sort on
them. (Purgatory)

In ACCESS 2007 after SP2, I could neither see (unless I right-click) nor
sort. (Well, you know...)

That is how it has gone for me.

Weird!

Before your update, was it in Service Pack 1? As you said it was the
description was visible in the Navigation Pain but my version SP1 is not
visible at all and I have to right click on the object to view the
description.

But I thought you could search on them in A2007 before SP2?

I cannot say for sure if SP1 was ever loaded on my PC. My PC is a work
machine, and software updates are managed centrally, of which I have
absolutely no control over. As a functional user, I really don't care what
is loaded as long as the software works for me. A2007 was loaded on my PC
last September (2008), and at that point I could no longer sort my queries by
the desc field, but at least they were visible. Last April (2009), Office
SP2 was loaded on my machine, and at that point, the descriptions ceased to
exist. I started this thread back then, and multiple people have confirmed
the same problem after SP2 was loaded on their PC. Was it a also a SP1
problem? To me, the point is moot, as SP2 is what is on my machine now, and
the descriptions do not show. Perhaps some other A2007 user can verify that
the descriptions fell out when SP1 was updated. I'm sorry I do not know for
certain.

Yeah, I know that.

What asking is your Access 2007 without SP1 or with SP1 before your update to
SP2. Because in my version SP1, the description can't be view on the
Navigation Pain.

My quess is that SP1 already disabled the description. So it can't be SP2.

Tony, apparently the hotfix was loaded on my PC over the holiday; the
descriptions show as they did before. I don't think you can sort on them
though, but we are back to the point when I started this thread some time ago.

Thank you for your help in resolving this matter. If you (or anyone else)
knows of a way to sort on the Descriptions, please advise.
