Naming photos

I have copied my pictures to a CD-RW disc. Then I look
at the CD and all pictures are there. I renamed the
pictures and when I looked at the CD again all the
pictures were rearranged in alphabetical order. I want
them in chronological order according to the date they
were taken. I went to Details and more Details but I
cannot get them to be arranged chronologically. On the
details window you cannot uncheck the choice "name". Is
there any way to do this? Thanks

i have similar problem in other program with alpha names.
what i did was add number as first character in item name.
1_tom
2_albert
3_james
4_george
however this only works up to 9 because 10 will be right
after 1. 20 will be right after 2.

my only work-a-round is: _1_word until 10_name etc.
i use this method in favorites and directory listings.

i know there is some way to get 10 after 9 but not sure
how to do that. some programs can use blank space before
single numbers but others ignore blank spaces. the above
problem also exists in large UNIX OS's.

For a numbering system that should be
universal, try renaming your files this way:

Kelly,Sara,Heather0001.jpg
Kelly,Sara,Heather0002.jpg

If the file names are different...you can
still sort by number if you place the number
first.

0001Kelly,Sara,Heather.jpg
0002Mary,Betty,Brenda.jpg

When you go to two or three digits...remove
the equal number of zeros.

0001
0010
0100

If you're going above 999, add an additional
zero to each file.

00001
00010
00100
01000

You can add a space between the letters
and numbers if you wish and also you can
use parenthesis.

(0002) Kelly,Sara,Heather.jpg

If you need to batch renumber your files,
the excellent freeware IrfanView can do it.

(get the plug-ins too)

Your number system works well for me. To go above ten,
just use two or three digit numbers-starting with zero:
001, 002, etc.
