Nag/Alert tray icon

After a restart a nag/alert icon appeared in the task tray stating I'd not
run a scan in THREE days. Turn off alert option?

I've seen a post from Microsoft stating that they will be looking at this.
Frankly, I think they set that option looking for feedback--and they are
getting it!

I'm sure the trick is satisfying all of us who want to customize the program
and keep the casual user on his toes for updates and scans - all this without
becoming bloatware (Acrylic II?)
The programmers will probably, before this is over, wish they'd just tried
to crack the last 2 remaining Enigma messages.

You've got that right, I think. Also, the early adopters and intentional
beta testers are largely techies who always want more bells and whistles,
rather than fewer. So far, as far as I can tell, the testing community for
Windows Defender is either self-selected, or perhaps seeded--there were a
number of system admin types early on the uptake, maybe folks who avoided
deploying Microsoft Antispyware and were now ready to jump on the bandwagon.
They haven't opened the floodgates by turning on update prompts in Microsoft
Antispyware yet.

Hopefully, they'll take their time with us guinea pigs. Boinking an
operational and functional MS/Giant too early will lead to the inevitable
flaming on ZDNet, et al., by the ever-lurking Linux/Mac/Firefox/anti-anything
MS crew.
