How aÑe you fixed for anti virus, firewall software - something that
running with for real time protection? McAfee, Zone Alarm, etc.
anything like that that has a firewall separate from the built in one
for your OS?

Any others Security programs running in the background GetRight Zone Alarm
Firewall Spybot Search & Destroy, Microsoft Forefront Client Security,
Windows Live OneCare etc etc

With that information - an Internet search would quickly bring up an answer

It seems possible that your Windows installation has been deliberately
damaged by a trojan (Vundo, along any uninvited guests. (SDBot and ZLOB, all
protected by a rootkit.)) so as to prevent you UPDATING your system or
removing the trojan.

Go to Control Panel/Automatic Updates it is turned on?.

Use the following two (free) programs to remove the malware generating the
Pop-Ups.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM)
Download SUPERAntiSpyware FREE Edition

I'm using XP OS. I also have AVG free and Spybox S&D that I run daily. I
also have Superantispyware and Ad-Aware that I run periodically. I had this
happen once before when I was using Sygate and it was incompatible with other
programs. When I replaced it with AVG Free, I kept getting these same
alerts. I made some changes with the help of Bleeping Computer and thought
the matter was resolved.

This issue didn't come up again until I began transferring files to an
external hard drive in anticipation of a new computer. I don't really care
if there's a problem on the old hard drive, but if I've transferred someting
to the external drive, I want it fixed before I transfer the files and
settings onto the new computer.

This can be done by choosing

Click Start and then click Control Panel.

Double-click Security Center.

In the Security Center, under Virus Protection, click Recommendations. (The
Recommendations button is not available when your Virus Protection setting is
marked ON.)

In the Recommendations dialog box, select the I have antivirus software that
I'll monitor myself check box, and then click OK.

When you use this procedure, the Security Center displays your Virus
Protection setting as Unknown, and does not send you alerts.

Good luck

Thank you. Just one more question, if you don't mind. Will this be an issue
on the new computer? It came with Windows Vista but a free upgrade to
Windows 7. I will be doing the upgrade. Obvioulsy, I can install AVG until
I have the computer up and running. Do you have an experience with Windows 7
and AVG?

You can also in security centre, click on the link 'change the way security
center alerts me and uncheck the Virus protection box.

Another trick that sometimes works is to disable the AV, restart, then
enable it again (kind of gives security center a kick in the behind)..
